Update on South Chicago’s US Steel Lakefront Development
A few months ago, we reported on the announced plans for McAfferty Development to transform the now vacant former U.S. Steel Plant in the South Chicago community on Chicago’s South Side. We’re happy to report that Mayor Daley is completely in support of this project and has proposed that $96 million from City bonds be set aside to prepare roads and sewers to sustain the development.

Big South Works Plan Advances, But for When?
The City Council’s Zoning Committee on Thursday approved a plan to fill the site’s northwest corner with 3,000 homes and 1 million square feet of retail space over the next 30 years. The full council almost certainly will give final backing to the proposal at its next meeting on Wednesday.
